SSE

Company overview

SSE is one of the largest and fastest-growing energy companies in the UK. We are one of the UK's largest generators of electricity with over 13,000MW of generation capacity from the most diverse portfolio of power stations.

We are also the leading generator of electricity from renewables resources, with a total generation capacity of 3,200MW.

Career development

Apprentices and trainees

We have opportunities for you to join as an apprentice in power distribution, mechanical and electrical contracting and engineering maintenance.

Depending on the location you select, you can make a decision on what kind of Apprenticeship you wish to apply for. Whichever Apprenticeship you choose, you'll have the opportunity to achieve a Modern Apprentice qualification, City & Guilds Technical Certificate and NVQ (or SVQ in Scotland) Level 2 and 3. You will learn new skills that will help you build a successful career in the industry.

Our preference is for candidates who are just starting out on an Apprenticeship, although there may be times when we choose someone who is part way through their qualifications to meet business needs.

Most of our Apprenticeships take between three and four years to complete. The majority of apprentices attend college on a block release arrangement, which helps you progress more quickly and gives you valuable support. You may have to live away from home for short periods but you’ll quickly find your feet and make some great friends.

In order to be considered for an Apprenticeship you must have a minimum of four GCSEs or Standard Grades, (at C/3 or above), including maths, English and a science or craft subject. Successful applicants will be asked to supply copies of their certificates.

Undergraduates & graduates

As one of the UK's largest and most diverse energy companies, we're always looking to identify great talent to support SSE's growth in the energy industry. We're looking for bright, ambitious graduates from engineering disciplines to join our graduate programmes.

Our distribution, transmission, and generation and renewables businesses have opportunities for graduates from relevant engineering disciplines to join us on programmes of one or two years.

Experienced candidates

We need people to help us grow our business, across a diverse range of activities: from customer service to power station operation, meter reading to gas and electricity distribution. We also need people to help develop our new businesses, from gas boiler maintenance to renewable technologies.

If you have the skills to work in an environment that promotes innovation and excellence in everything we do, we'd like to hear from you.

We recruit across engineering and operations, IT, customer service and sales and management and support functions.
