DESCRIPTION

The position of Senior SCADA Specialist sits within the Asset Strategy & Network Programmes business area and reports to the Real Time Systems (RTS) Strategy & Projects Manager.

The Senior SCADA Specialist is the technical expert responsible for the primary provision of project expertise (and the secondary provision of support) across all Energy Networks’ RTS Systems Application Software, Configuration, Data, Hardware and RTU/Communications Infrastructure. You will ensure effective achievement of project deliverables as well as supporting the operational integrity, reliable performance and high availability (in service) of these business critical 24/7 systems.


ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Planning and delivering own work packages as directed.
  • Executing allocated work, recording and reporting progress to the designated Project Manager.
  • Interfacing with Central System suppliers.
  • Liaison with Energy Networks’ internal ‘customers’.
  • To provide Expert technical expertise in relation to all technical aspects of the installed systems.
  • Providing the necessary technical expertise to ensure timely and successful resolution of RTS system faults that have been escalated from front line support.
  • Support the safety culture, ensuring all legislation and company rules, policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Deliver project and customer service targets.
  • Pro-actively support the delivery of capital and revenue budgets in the RTS arena.
  • Coach and mentor the RTS team in technical skills.
  • Advise the RTS Strategy & Projects Manager of any escalation issues.
  • Support the delivery of asset maintenance and replacement in line with agreed plans and budgets.
  • Participate as a member of the RTS External or Internal Standby Rotas (as required by the business).
  • Please note that there will be a requirement to travel regularly, particularly within the relevant licence area (primarily in connection with Standby Duties if required), as well as across the UK.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  • Working knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices.
  • Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Awareness of network development policies and procedures.
  • Developed customer service skills.
  • Expert knowledge of network and business data and network management systems.
  • Innovative in applying the latest technologies.
  • Developed negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges.
  • Experience in a senior technical role.
  • Expert technical understanding of SCADA scan system/database applications and structures, RTU protocols and RTU hardware/software, RTS Central Systems applications, hardware and communications technology.
 MINIMUM CRITERIA
  • Degree/HND/HNC in an engineering discipline or equivalent significant relevant experience.
  • Understanding of how IT systems operate and interface with each other.
  • Expert understanding and experience of SCADA.
  • Relevant Operational Authorisations.
