About the role

We currently have Site Manager vacancies working within the Construction department in the SP Energy Networks business in various locations across Scotland. The Site Manager will deliver the Civil, Electrical or Overhead Line & Cable construction works for major electrical transmission projects to safety, quality and environmental standards whilst ensuring financial and programme targets are met.  Projects could vary from new build, replacement, refurbishment or other associated transmission projects.  Programming and planning the construction works, managing site mobilisation, leading the relevant site staff and delivering the works.  Managing the contractors, materials, costs and conditions of contract. 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

* Health & Safety matters establish a positive culture throughout the duration of the project.  Comply with all relevant legislation with a particular focus on CDM 2015.  Carry out site coordination meetings, safety inspections, review and acceptance of pre task planning including risk assessments & method statements, dynamic risk assessments etc.  Provide monthly reports to the Project Manager.
* Manage and deliver Civil & Electrical site works in accordance with client specifications, SP Energy Networks engineering specifications, British Standards, Euro Codes and other industry standards.
* Manage and deliver site works to meet commercial conditions of contract including minimising delays and claims for variations.
* Plan & programme the site activities in accordance with contractor’s scope of work. Manage and coordinate a number of detailed contractor’s programmes to meet the project key dates.
* Organise and supervise contractors, plan and chair site meetings, complete site quality, safety and environmental inspections. Deal with and resolve disputes whether they are technical, financial or other.
* Provide regular reports on construction costs in collaboration with the construction manager, project manager, and quantity surveyor. Minimise variations and support the variation process.  Review contractor measures, applications for payment, confirm accuracy.
* Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and in a team consisting of Project Management, Design, Commercial, Civil, Electrical, Overhead Line & Cable, Safety, Quality and Environmental staff whilst supervising contractors.
* Provide technical support, advice and instruction to various contractors and others on-site.
* Deliver site works in accordance with SP Energy Networks Quality and Environmental processes and procedures.  Minimise non-conformances or resolve within specified timescales.

About you

You should have significant experience in managing transmission project site construction in a Civil, Electrical or Overhead Line and Cable discipline, particularly in managing Civil & Electrical site construction works for High Voltage Substation work. Knowledge of specification, design, maintenance, construction and commissioning of electrical substations. You will have strong understanding of Health and Safety legislation related to transmission construction projects and experience in discharging the Principal Contractor role and managing multiple contractors.

With your understanding of good working practice for construction sites, you should be able to implement quality assurance and environmental processes whilst managing and monitoring the programme of works. You will have experience in contract management including variations and claims, and awareness of FIDIC, NEC, conditions of contract. You should have a proven ability to lead and work in a team and contractors environment as well as excellent negotiation and influencing skills.

We are looking for someone who has, at the minimum, a HNC/HND in related engineering discipline or equivalent experience and be proficient with IT & Software packages such as Microsoft Office. The successful candidate will also be required to have current SMSTS and First Aid Certificate and should possess SP Energy Networks authorisations up to 275Kv.
