Generation is organised around its physical assets. These include gas and, as a company with an acute sense of the bigger picture, other forward thinking ways of providing power such as hydro-electric power stations, CCGT power stations and our Daldowie sludge processing plant near Glasgow, which manufactures fuel pellets from sewage sludge.

About the role

We have a new opportunity for a Mechanical Technician working within the multi-skilled maintenance team based at Rye House Power Station, which is a 715MW CCGT located in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. The role is split between desk top engineering for compliance with relevant legislation such PSSR and LOLER as well as hands on maintenance of plant ranging from large industrial gas and steam turbines, high pressure water and steam systems, fixed firefighting systems through to HVAC systems.

The maintenance team also provides assistance to the UK Thermal Engineering group on projects to improve reliability, flexibility and replacement of assets. Technicians are involved in the development of contract technical specifications and tender processes, procurement, development of work specifications, planning and undertaking works inclusive of control and supervision of contractors.

The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for maintenance and some engineering work at Rye House Power Station, which will involve delivering cost effective maintenance practices to support the business need, alongside supporting the Health and Safety policy, principles and rules as set by the Company and Statute requirements. To support the Technical Risk Management Process of the Company, the job-holder will utilise reporting tools to accurately record and assess Maintenance and Service activities. The job-holder will also undergo all necessary training and instruction required as set out by the role and duties.

About You

We are looking for someone who is suitably experienced in Mechanical Maintenance activities of large Industry (CCGT, or generating plant desirable). You should be educated to Degree/HNC standard, or have equivalent qualifications and experience.

In this role you will be responsible for maintenance and some engineering work at Rye House Power Station; therefore will have knowledge of relevant legislation, e.g. health & safety, environment and employment law, alongside IOSH Entry Level Qualification to Managing Safely. You should also have knowledge of budgets and contract management, and be proficient with IT & Software packages such as Microsoft Office.

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Hoddesdon (EN11 0RF) with a starting salary from £33450 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.
