The Galloway Hydro Scheme was the first large-scale integrated hydro-electric complex to be built in Britain for the purpose of public electricity supply. The scheme generates ‘green’ energy by harnessing the kinetic force of fast moving water from its catchment area of 400 square miles in Ayrshire and Galloway.

About the role

We currently have a vacancy for an EC+I Craftsperson/Operator reporting to the Electrical Team Leader, within Galloway Hydros. The main focus of the role will be to support the EC&I Maintenance Manager with routine plant operations and inspection and maintenance of the Electrical, Control & Instrumentation systems to ensure that plant meets all statutory and legislative requirements and remains efficient and reliable to maximise opportunities for commercial running.

The post-holder will assist the Maintenance Engineers in routine and unplanned inspection and maintenance of electrical plant, and the EC&I Engineer in compliance with PUWER, Electricity at Work and other legislative/business requirements with regards to Control and Instrumentation systems and working equipment. You will also assist with the design and upgrade of existing instrument systems during planned outages, and routine instrumentation calibrations and control loop checks.

You will train, supervise and monitor other staff members as required, including contractors, and undertake the duties of and support other team members during absences. Cover for standby should be provided, including bank holidays and call outs outside normal working hours for operational, maintenance or other business requirements where required.

The successful candidate will also undertake the roles of Competent Person, and Authorised Person under the ScottishPower Safety rules and participate in health, safety, environmental and quality inspections and audits. You will use business Maintenance Systems including Maximo, Cintellate, Filenet.

About you

We are looking for someone who has suitable industrial experience in plant operations and maintenance within a multi-disciplinary team. Excellent problem solving and innovation abilities will be required for the role, alongside strong interpersonal and communication skills. You should also be educated to ONC/HNC level or equivalent in an Electrical engineering discipline with sound working knowledge of Electrical, Control, Instrumentation & PLC systems.

Due to the nature of the role, you must be willing to work in all weather conditions for long periods, be comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, climbing and descending vertical access ladders, lone working, manual handling and working near water courses and hold a current UK driving licence.

This is a permanent, full-time position based at Glenlee Power Station (DG7 3SF) therefore candidates should live nearby or be able to relocate within reasonable distance. The role has a minimum starting salary from £25935 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications, and other company benefits including Stakeholder Pension plan, training and development, generous annual leave and flexible benefits of your choice.
